A popular legend tells the story of Kaldi, a goat herder who notices his goats became energetic after eating coffee cherries. Curious, Kaldi tried it himself and experienced their stimulating effects.

A monk roasted and brewed the beans, discovering that coffee helped monks stay awake during long prayers. From this moment, coffee became an accepted and valued beverage.
